In this Lino Printing course you will learn the basic principles of lino printing, this is a relief method of printing. You will be introduced to different materials and tools that can be used in relief printing.
You can choose traditional hard lino or newer variations of soft carve lino. You will design your print, next you will carve the design into lino, then you are ready to print. We will look at the process of applying ink, talk about different inks, and papers. After this we will print, we will use traditional hand-burnishing techniques and we also have the use of a press. After our initial experimentation we will also discuss the process of creating a Reduction Print, this is a method of printing several layers of colour, using the same block, to create a multi-coloured print.
We are very fortunate at Heimdal to have a printing press so as well as handprinting you will also have the opportunity to use the press during the course.
